Nepal lies in the South Asia with China to its northern and India beyond its eastern, western and southern borders. The population of Nepal is about 28 million (2019) whereby roughly 25% of its population is under the age of 30. The establishment of Nepal's first college in 1918 finally paved its road to higher education. Later on in 1971, all educational bodies were nationalised. Today, while the country boasts 10 universities and a number of well-established private colleges, the demand for higher education still grows.
With english widely used among the young, the demand and willingness of individuals that want to pursue education and careers abroad have proportionately increased. According to the Nepal Education Science and Technology Ministry, of the roughly 300,000 Nepali students that study abroad, about 63,000 applied for higher education in 2018. Similarly, government statistics note that during 2013/14 just 16,500 students studied abroad but by 2017/19 it had increased to nearly 63,000. Future predictions show similar trends.
